PORTSMOUTH, England – Harwin plc in Portsmouth, England, is introducing Sycamore surface-mount
The Sycamore Contact series of surface-mount PCB sockets enable designers to attach odd-form devices and modules that are not suited to regularly spaced socket strip arrangements to circuit boards without future inconvenience, should they need to remove these sockets later.
Electronic devices and modules can require replacement over time. Soldering heat also risks damage and early failure of these modules; direct soldering ontThe patent-pending Sycamore gives engineers access to three contact points, while similar contacts have only two points of contact to the mating pin, making them vulnerable to the effects of vibration. Using three contact points can improve operational stability, strengthen pin retention, and improve signal integrity.
Available in top- and bottom-entry configurations, these sockets have a current rating of 6 amps and a maximum of 15 Ohms of contact resistance. Their sturdy construction, which uses beryllium copper with gold plating, supports 500 mating cycles and operation in temperatures from -50 to 125 degrees Celsius. These contacts come in tape-and-reel format.
o the printed circuit board (PCB) clearly is unadvisable.
